Epoxy or Polyurethane
The choice between epoxy and polyurethane is driven by the facility's operating conditions, not budget. Epoxy systems are harder and hold up better against chemicals — acids, alkalis, fuels and lubricants — so they go into chemical warehouses, electroplating shops and auto repair facilities. Polyurethane is more elastic: it performs where the floor takes impact, vibration and temperature swings — in freezer rooms, food production, and facilities with hot washdowns.
By thickness, systems fall into three groups. Thin-film impregnations at 0.3–0.5 mm eliminate dust and suit warehouses with light equipment. Self-leveling coatings at 1.5–2.5 mm produce a glossy, seamless surface with solid chemical resistance. Quartz-filled systems at 4–6 mm withstand the toughest conditions while staying slip-resistant — used for ramps, wash bays and production zones with spills.
Polymer holds onto concrete only through adhesion, so preparation matters more than the material itself. The base is ground or shot-blasted until the pores open, then de-dusted and primed — skip this and the coating peels off in sheets under forklift wheels. Work is done at temperatures above +10°C and humidity below 75%: polymer is sensitive to curing conditions, and any deviation shows on the surface immediately.
